1. [MIXED MULTIPLE LOT] includes: (1) George Francis Train (1829-1904)  American entrepreneur who organized the clipper ship line that sailed around Cape Horn to San Francisco; he also organized the Union Pacific Railroad and the Credit Mobilier in the United States in 1864 to construct the eastern portion of the Transcontinental Railroad, and a horse tramway company in England while there during the American Civil War. In 1870 Train made the first of three widely publicized trips around the globe. He believed that a report of his first journey in a French periodical inspired Jules Verne's novel Around the World in Eighty Days; protagonist Phileas Fogg may have been modeled on him. In 1872, he ran for president of the United States as an independent candidate. That year, he was jailed on obscenity charges while defending suffragist Victoria Woodhull against charges regarding an article her newspaper had published on an alleged adulterous affair. Despite business successes in early life, he was known as an increasingly eccentric figure in American and Australian history. Offered here is a1903 postmarked envelope on whichnhe has written quite abit on both sides [signed on verso]. On back side of album sheet [not attached to Train items on other side] is a ALS 1895 signed by Charles Bell [not researched]. (2) Bart Starr (1934-1019) Pro Football HOF. TLS, 1992, 1p., signed Bart [as usual]. Includes Bret Starr Memorial Fine flyer[his son]. (3) Anne Grenfell (d. 1938) wife of Sir Wilfred Thomason Grenfell KCMG (1865-1940)  British medical missionary to Newfoundland, who wrote books on his work and other topics. SIGNED CARD. (4) Charles B. Rounds - served in the civil war and was a noted attorney and judge from Calais, Maine. He was First Lieut. in Company D, 32nd Maine Infantry. Mustered April 19, 1864; wounded in the arm May 12th at Spottysylvania.  Rounds was at Elmira, NY guarding prisoners of war, having been assigned by Special Order No. 164 July 20, 1864. Signed 1902 bank check. (5) Charles Francis Adams Sr. (1807-1886)  American historical editor, writer, politician, and diplomat. He was a son of President John Quincy Adams, and grandson of President John Adams, about whom he wrote a major biography. SMALL clip signature. (6) Donald Campbell McRuer (1826-1898) American politician from the Republican Party who served as U.S. Representative from California's 1st district from 1865 to 1867. SIGNATURE. (7) William Barnum - Chief Clerk Carnegie Institution of Washington. TLS, 1925, 1p., to Robert S. Woodward (1849-1924) American civil engineer, physicist and mathematician. (8) Milton Ebbins (1912–2008) Film executive, songwriter ("Yale Blues", "Basic Boogie") and composer. Ebbins helped produce JFK’s 1961 Inaugural Ball and the subsequent 1962 JFK Anniversary Gala. In May of 1962, Ebbins escorted a very late Marilyn Monroe to Madison Square Garden where she famously — and breathlessly — sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.” He was also the man that Lawford called after speaking to Monroe the night of her death in August of 1962. Ebbins was one of the few allowed inside the White House after the JFK assassination. SIGNED 1965 contract document with the film BILLIE. (9) Douglas Volk - artist known for his portraits of Abraham Lincoln, one used on postage stamp. Signed 1922 bank check.  (10) DENMAN THOMPSON (1833-1911) American playwright and actor. CLIP SIGNATURE. (11) FREDERICK "Fritz" SOLOMON (1899-1980) German Expressionist artist. Original pencil  DRAWING, signed with initials "FS",  dated 1952 approx. 9.75 x 12 in. paper. Unframed. Comes with biographical information. This is, without doubt, by Solomon and guaranteed to be so without a time limit. Solomon won the Mowbray Prize [1944] in London; was listed in WHO'S WHO IN ART [1954 London edition]. He studied art with such famous German artist's as: Max Liebermann, Martin Brandenburg, Eugene Spiro & Willy Jaeckel [Masterclass]. Exhibitions: Berlin, Cologne, Capetown, Haifa, London [Royal Academy], U.S., and in 1958 had one-man show at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Havana, Cuba. In 1956 several of his paintings were exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio. He died in the U.S. We purchased his personal papers and most of his drawings at his estate sale. His work is fairly scarce. The photos shown below DO NOT accompany this drawing and are not for sale. Also, showing below is a copy of Royal Academy of Arts notification that Samuel Courtauld has selected a painting by Solomon for purchase in 1945. Courtauld, who would died two tears later, was the founder of the Courtauld Art Institute in England. Courtauld had formed an important art collection including multiple works by Manet, Cezanne, Renoir etc., which he gave to the Courtauld and the Tate. He had purchased at least 5 paintings by Frederick Solomon and when he saw the painting JACOB at Solomon's exhibition at the JABE Gallery he ordered that the painting be sent to the TATE Gallery but he died a few days later and the purchase never took place. Solomon was also a Rabbi Offered here is a 3 page typed sermon titled The Miracle of Passover. he gave this sermon in 1957, 1960, 1961 and 1963. In 1960 he gave it in Cuba. All of the corrections written on the pages are by Solomon. This last item is quite rare.............Min. Bid $100

2. [MUSIC] William Hayman Cummings (1831-1915) English musician, tenor and organist at Waltham Abbey. He is credited in 1855 with linking music adapted from Mendelssohn's Festgesang to Charles Wesley's words "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", which are now universally inextricably linked. [MIXED MULTIPLE LOT] inscludes: (1) Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey KG, GCB, GCH, PC (1768-1854), styled Lord Paget between 1784 and 1812 and known as the Earl of Uxbridge between 1812 and 1815, was a British Army officer and politician. 1850 postmarked address panel SIGNED. (2)  [US NAVAL] Ellsworth Davis [1892-1946] American naval officer. He served on the U.S.S. Florida as a signal officer, official uniform inspector and flag lieutenant. During the U.S. occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico on April 1914, Davis led a company onshore and overtook the town's postal service building. In addition to his service on the U.S.S. Florida, Davis served in the Mediterranean and off of the U.S. Atlantic Coast on the Brooklyn and the Fairfax. He was commanding officer of the USS Fairfax from 1934 to 1936. The Fairfax was a Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during the World War I, later transferred to the Royal Navy as HMS Richmond (G88), as a Town class destroyer. The Fairfax took part in the Presidential Review taken by Franklin D. Roosevelt in San Diego in March 1933, and then sailed for the East coast, where she continued her reserve training duty. She also patrolled in Cuban waters, and in the summers of 1935, 1937, 1938, 1939, and 1940 sailed out of Annapolis training midshipmen of the Naval Academy. Between October 1935 and March 1937, she served with the Special Service Squadron out of Coco Solo and Balboa, Canal Zone, operating primarily on the Atlantic side of the Canal Zone. 11. [ART]  Louis Rosenthal (1887-1964) American sculptor. In 1923 King George V of England changed the charter of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters to the Royal Society of Miniature Painters and Sculptors solely to allow in one American, Louis Rosenthal, whose tiny miniatures had startled the art world. His signature on the back of a 1939 check made out to him. Fine..............75-100

12. [ARTISTS MULTIPLE LOT] includes: (1) Stephen James Ferris [1835-1915] influential Philadelphia painter and etcher. Original etching, "Mrs. Nicklin", from a painting by Gilbert Stuart. Stuart painted the portrait of Mrs. Nicklin about 1795, when she was in her thirtieth year. She was one of Philadelphia's celebrated beauties, the wife of Mr. Philip Nicklin, and the daughter of Chief-Justice Benjamin Chew. This plate shows notable characteristics in Mr. Ferris's method of etching, he believing in finish, and striving to obtain depth of tone and suggestion of color by close and careful working. Image 7-1/4 5-1/2" plus fairly clean marhins. Top left corner is soiled. (2)  Wendell D. Volk (1884-1953) American artist. Signed 1943 bank check. Born El Paso, TX, buried Arlington Natinal Cemetery. He was a printmaker and woodcarver, married Jessie J. McCoig, also an artist (1904-2005). The Douglas Volk family built a rustic Tudor cottage, “Hewnoaks,” on the shores of Kezar Lake in Center Lovell, Maine. [Stephen A.] Douglas Volk was the son of Leonard [W.] Volk, who was famous for his many life casts of Abraham Lincoln. S.A. Douglas Volk studied in Paris and Italy. He taught at the Cooper Union, the Art Students League, and the National Academy of Design in New York and was a founder of the Minneapolis School of Fine Art. He participated in the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition and taught at the New York Society for Ethical Culture established by Felix Adler, where he met Karl von Rydingsvärd. He married Marion Larabee in 1881 and two of their children were dau. Marion and son Wendell. Daughter Marion helped Mother Marion run the Sabatos Studio, which produced woven and printed textiles. Wendell was also a weaver and learned woodcarving from Karl von Rydingsvärd. Wendell’s wife Jessie left Hewnoaks, lock, stock, and barrel, to the University of Maine. Hewnoaks was the heart of an Arts and Crafts community. Marion Volk decided to improve upon a generations-old native tradition of making “drawn” rugs and with the help of her son Wendell and daughter Marion she began Sabatos Handcrafts in 1901. The Volks gathered together residents of Center Lovell, who then carried out every part of the rug-making process. Twenty years later the Volks began producing block-printed textiles. The rugs and printed panels are extremely rare today. VG  (3) RICHARD CARLE - deceased New England artist. Worked a lot around Boston and the north shore. ORIGINAL drawing, not signed, 1980. Approx. 9 x 11.5 in.  paper size. VG (4) Madeline Marrable (1833-1916) was a prolific London based watercolourist and oil painter specialising in landscapes with a preference for mountains and snowscapes. She traveled widely to places including Austria, France, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland and Venice. In 1886, Marrable was elected as the first President of the Society of Lady Artists (SLA), formerly the Society of Female Artists (SFA) and since 1899 is now known as the Society of Women Artists (SWA), she retired from the presidency in 1912. CLIP SIGNATURE, 4-1/4 x 1 in. VG. (5) Mary Lucier (b. 1944) American video artist. Concentrating primarily on video and installation since 1973, she has produced numerous multiple- and single-channel pieces. Mary Lucier has presented solo exhibitions at different venues all around the world. Among those are The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the TV Gallery in Moscow , San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, Lennon, Weinberg, Inc., New York, and the Media Test Wall at MIT. Signed 1985 exhibition brochure. Fine. (6) Douglas Volk (1856-1935) American portrait painter and the son of noted sculptor Leonard Volk. Best known for his portraits of Abraham Lincoln, one of which hangs in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House. He was named after his mother's cousin (Abraham Lincoln's political rival) Stephen A. ALS, 1893, 1p.  [7] César Campinchi (1882-1941) French statesman in the beginning of the 20th century. Campinchi was president of the Association générale des étudiants de Paris student organisation, a member of the Radical Socialist Party and deputy for Corsica from 1932 to 1940. He carried out the functions of the Keeper of the seals and presented the Campinchi proposal concerning the protection of minors in 1937. ALS, no date, 1p, 5-1/4 x 7 in. 15. [SPACE] A vintage original black and white portrait of John Glenn, Gus Grissom, and Alan Shepard in spacesuits in front of a Mercury-Redstone spacecraft. A black number photograph, with explanatory text stamped on the verso in purple/blue ink. The 3 Mercury Redstone pilots participated in Mercury's first manned space flights from the cape. Left to right is John Glenn, Gus Grissom and Alan Shepard. UNSIGNED as usual. Very scarce. Another example of this photo was offered at auction in 2020 with an estimate of $800-$1200 but it failed to sell. We believe this photo was taken by WILLENE WHISENHANT (1930-2015) she was a renowned photographer who was the first female photographer for NASA. Provenance: Willene Whisenhant collection. 21. [SPILLANE] Offered here is a TLS dated Feb. 6 [1956] to Elliott Graham from Mickey Spillane, signed Mickey.  Mickey says at the end of this letter......."Send me some WWII flying books. Would you like to read the big final chapter of the new Mike Hammer book? If this doesn't tear the steeple off the church it ain't because I didn't try. Love, Mickey."  Accompanied by a carbon copy of a Dec. 3, 1956 typed letter from Elliott Graham to Mickey. We believe that the pencil notation at the top was written by Mickey. Elliot Graham - was a publicist at E.P.Dutton who had worked on almost two dozen Spillane books. One of them, "The Girl Hunters," is dedicated to Mr. Graham. Mr. Graham recalled the time an editor had to restore each of 163 deleted commas in a Spillane manuscript before the author would let the book be published. And at Mr. Spillane's first appearance at a Dutton sales conference, the author steered the conversation away from matters literary. "He said if you ever get into a fight, punch the person hard, right in the nose,and all the blood and pain will take the starch out of him," Mr. Graham recalled. "After Mickey left, everybody said, 'What are we doing publishing that guy?'"  The answer, of course, is that "publishing that guy" was like minting money. "I, the Jury," Mr. Spillane's first book, was the first mystery to sell more than six million copies in America. ...............200-300

23. [KENTUCKY PIONEER] BEN HELM (1767-1858) known as "Kitchen Knife Whetted on a Brick." He was a surveyor, state senator, clerk of Hardin Co. courts; major in War of 1812; purchased the farm owned by Christopher Bush, father of Mrs. Sallie [Bush] Johnston Lincoln, step-mother of Abraham Lincoln. He was a partner, in the general store business, with Duff Green [later statesman] in the early frontier days of Kentucky. It is likely that young Abe Lincoln visited his store often in his early youth.Handwritten, signed document, Hardin County [Elizabethtown] Kentucky, 1800, approx. 6 x 5 in. A court document ordering the Sheriif to summon 6 named persons to appear in court in Elizabethtown to testify in a case  Archibald White vs John Ashcroft. Also signed on the back by Samuel Percefull (1749-c. 1823) born in England in 1749. He immigrated to America around 1769. Samuel Perciful was a member of Captain James Thompson's militia in Botecourt County, Virginia in 1772. In 1773 he was on Captain Joseph Crockett's militia in Fincastle County [today Mongomery County]. On 27 Jan 1776 he was mustered into the 8th company of 1st Maryland Battalion...............100-150

24. [ART] Doris Reynolds (1912-1978) Doris Reynolds did many illustrations for books published by Doubleday & Co. She was also an exhibiting artist, having work shown at the Krausharr Gallery in New York in 1949. Other exhibitions include: Wilmington Museum, Delaware 1940-45; Maracaibo 1936-39; Barbizon Plaza, NYC 1940; Lake Placid Club, NY 1940, etc. She studied at the Art Students League with Jules Gotlieb, Bridgman & Brackman. During World War II, she was one of Jackie Cochran's Girls, ferrying airplanes throughout the United States. Offered here are 4 original drawings, unsigned. These were done while she was studying at the Art Students League. Provenance: Artist's Estate......Min. Bid $40

25. [WORLD WAR 2 - POLISH GHETTO] The Litzmannstadt Ghetto, Lodz, Poland,  (after the Nazi German name for Łódź) was a Nazi ghetto established by the German authorities for Polish Jews and Roma following the Invasion of Poland. It was the second-largest ghetto in all of German-occupied Europe after the Warsaw Ghetto. Situated in the city of Łódź, and originally intended as a preliminary step upon a more extensive plan of creating the Judenfrei province of Warthegau, the ghetto was transformed into a major industrial centre, manufacturing war supplies for Nazi Germany and especially for the Wehrmacht. The number of people incarcerated in it was increased further by the Jews deported from Nazi-controlled territories. Offered here is an ORIGINAL 50 marks currency noteissued at Litzmannstadt Ghetto, 15 May 1940.  This is the highest denomination and most valuable of the currency notes issued there. In other ghettos throughout Poland, thriving underground economies based on smuggling of food and manufactured goods developed between the ghettos and the outside world.  In Łódź, however, this was practically impossible due to heavy security. The Jews were entirely dependent on the German authorities for food, medicine and other vital supplies. To exacerbate the situation, the only legal currency in the ghetto was a specially created ghetto currency. Faced with starvation, Jews traded their remaining possessions and savings for this scrip, thereby abetting the process by which they were dispossessed of their remaining belongings. 5 x3.5 in. 27. [BASEBALL] Max Patkin (1920-1999) was an American baseball player and clown, best known as the Clown Prince of Baseball (a play on "Crown Prince").  Patkin was the third "officially" crowned Clown Prince of Baseball, after Al Schacht and Jackie Price, though that nickname has also been applied to St. Louis Browns third baseman Arlie Latham among others. Patkin performed for 51 years as a baseball clown.  His signature inscribed to Eddie, who was his driver when he visited Boston.  Ob the other side is the signature of Willis O. Underwood [not ID'd]. 29. [ART MULTIPLE LOT] includes: (1) Ben  Stahl (1910-1987) signed correspondence card. The large STAHL signature and 1960 are in his hand. (2) Jean Zaleski (born Jean Busuttil, also known as Jean Busuttil Zaleski; Birkirkara, 1920- 2010) was a Maltese artist who spent most of her adult life in the United States. Her work has appeared in several exhibitions in the United States and Malta.In 1986 she received a Susan B Anthony Award in the field of painting from the National Organization for Women and was invited by President Jimmy Carter to the White House as part of a delegation of five women artists in 1975. TLS, 1976, 1p. Westmoreland (1914-2005) Army general, most notably commander of United States forces during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. (4)  [US NAVAL] Ellsworth Davis [1892-1946] American naval officer. He served on the U.S.S. Florida as a signal officer, official uniform inspector and flag lieutenant. During the U.S. occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico on April 1914, Davis led a company onshore and overtook the town's postal service building. In addition to his service on the U.S.S. Florida, Davis served in the Mediterranean and off of the U.S. Atlantic Coast on the Brooklyn and the Fairfax. He was commanding officer of the USS Fairfax from 1934 to 1936. The Fairfax was a Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during the World War I, later transferred to the Royal Navy as HMS Richmond (G88), as a Town class destroyer. The Fairfax took part in the Presidential Review taken by Franklin D. Roosevelt in San Diego in March 1933, and then sailed for the East coast, where she continued her reserve training duty. She also patrolled in Cuban waters, and in the summers of 1935, 1937, 1938, 1939, and 1940 sailed out of Annapolis training midshipmen of the Naval Academy. Between October 1935 and March 1937, she served with the Special Service Squadron out of Coco Solo and Balboa, Canal Zone, operating primarily on the Atlantic side of the Canal Zone. He was an author of novels, plays, short stories, as well as a textbook on the United States Constitution. His most popular fictional writings were his "Chimmie Fadden" Bowery boy stories. Wepner also scored notable wins over Randy Neumann and former world heavyweight champion Ernie Terrell. He was also the last man to fight former undisputed world heavyweight champion Sonny Liston.  Wepner's boxing career, and fight with Ali, inspired the 1976 film Rocky, and other life events were chronicled in the 2016 film, Chuck. 44. Hans Baur (1897- 1993)  Adolf Hitler's pilot during Hitler's political campaigns of the early 1930s. He later became Hitler's personal pilot and leader of the Reichsregierung squadron. Apprehended by the Soviet Union at the end of World War II in Europe, he was imprisoned in the USSR for ten years before being extradited to France on 10 October 1955, where he was imprisoned until 1957. 51. [GERMANY] ALEXANDER von KLUCK (1846-1934) German general during World War I. He enlisted in the Prussian army in time to serve in the seven-week Austro-Prussian War of 1866 and the Franco-Prussian War, where he was wounded twice in the Battle of Colombey-Neuilly, and awarded the Iron Cross (second class) for bravery.  He was made a general of infantry in 1906, and in 1913 was appointed Inspector General of the Seventh Army District. With the outbreak of World War I, Kluck was placed in command of the German First Army. According to the Moltke revisions of the Schlieffen Plan, the First Army was part of the strong right wing and positioned on the outer western edge of the German advance through Belgium and France. 55.  [VERMONT] Benj. Swan (1762-1839) was an American merchant, banker and politician. He was an important political figure in Vermont and served as State Treasurer.A Federalist, Swan served in local offices including Postmaster. He served as Justice of the Peace when holders of that office still heard court cases. He was also active in the militia, and achieved the rank of Major.In 1796 Swan was appointed County Clerk, an office in which he served until his death. Swan was elected Vermont State Treasurer in 1800. He served until 1833, and is the state's longest-tenured Treasurer. This is an original document, dated Woodstock, 1811, a double sided writ for non-payment of debts....signed twice on the front by Benjamin Swan and once on the back side. Document is 9-3/4 x 15 in.  Also signed by Job Lyman (1781-1870) was a Vermont politician, attorney and banker who served as Vermont's State Auditor. 56. [MILITARY MEDICAL] The Association of MILITARY SURGEONS of the United States. 1919 document signed. Major Paul Stanley Hill elected to this association, Henry Patrick Birmingham (1854-1932) who was a surgeon and an American brigadier general active during World War I. Birmingham's first tours of duty were with the Fourth Cavalry in actions against the Apaches in the southwest. He was promoted to assistant surgeon on February 18, 1886. During the Spanish–American War, he served in Puerto Rico and then in the Philippines. On June 4, 1898, he was promoted to major, brigade surgeon of volunteers, and on April 23, 1908 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, Medical Corps. In 1914, he was the chief surgeon of the Vera Cruz Expedition under General Frederick Funston. On October 2, 1917, Birmingham was promoted to brigadier general and the same year he received an honorary master's degree from the University of Michigan. During World War I, Birmingham was in charge of the ambulance service of the army and the gas defense service of the medical department. In 1918, he retired as a colonel, then went right back to active duty. In 1930, he retired by operation of law as a brigadier general. Also signed by Secretary James Robb Church (1866-1923) 

United States Army Assistant Surgeon who received the Medal of Honor for his actions as part of the Rough Riders regiment during the Spanish–American War. He also served in World War I, and wrote about the effects of poison gas and his experiences as a wartime doctor. Church was awarded a Medal of Honor for actions during the Battle of Las Guasimas in the Spanish–American War on June 24, 1898. He received his medal on January 10, 1906, from Theodore Roosevelt, who was also part of the Rough Rider regiment.  It was the first time that the Medal of Honor had ever been presented in person by the president of the United States. In addition to performing gallantly the duties pertaining to his position, voluntarily and unaided carried several seriously wounded men from the firing line to a secure position in the rear, in each instance being subjected to a very heavy fire and great exposure and danger. After the Spanish–American War, he remained in the Army, obtaining the rank of colonel. Before the United States entered World War I, Church went to France as an observer and an attaché with the French Army. Once the United States entered the war, Church joined the staff of the American expeditionary force. While an observer in France, he reported on the newly introduced poison gas warfare. He himself suffered the effects of gas. The reports of Church and Charles Flandin became a basis for the Chemical Warfare Service. He wrote a book based on his experience as a wartime doctor, The doctor's part, what happens to the wounded in war. Approx. 9 x 11-3/4 in. Expected age wear but VG............200-300

Brief bio. on some of these signers:

Charles Helm (1777-1831) served in the Kentucky House in 1806, 1809-1811 and the Kentucky Senate from 1812-1816. He was also a veteran of the War of 1812.

Samuel Bush (1772-1812) became the Uncle of Abe Lincoln.

John Vertrees (1741-1803) he was a Captain solider in the Revolutionary War, one of 175 Virginia voluntees called by the Indians “Long Knives”, with George Rogers Clark in the conquest of the Northwest Territory (1778-9), fighting at Kaskaskia, Cahokia, Vincennes, Chilloocpthe and Pickaway; and was a captain of a company of soldiers with Col. John Floyd against Indians in 1782, following their incursions into Hardin and other counties in 1781. 

Stephen Rawlings (1749-1830) Private Stephen Rawlings, served in the American Revolution from 18 July until 21 August of 1780. He was in a Militia under the command of Col William Linn, in Captain John Swan's Company. At this time, George Rogers Clark was the Commanding General. Stephen was on the payroll of the Jefferson Militia under actual service in repelling an invasion of the enemy Indians, the expedition against the enemy, under General George Rogers Clark, from the 21st of October 1782 until the 6th of November 1782. 

James Crutcher (1755-1823) served as a corporal in Company 8, 2nd Virginia Regiment from June 1, 1777, to January 1778. He fought in the Battle of Brandywine and the Battle of Germantown and wintered at Valley Forge in 1777-78 in his 2nd Virgina Regiment service.

BEN HELM (1767-1858) known as "Kitchen Knife Whetted on a Brick." He was a surveyor, state senator, clerk of Hardin Co. courts; major in War of 1812; purchased the farm owned by Christopher Bush, father of Mrs. Sallie [Bush] Johnston Lincoln, step-mother of Abraham Lincoln. He was a partner, in the general store business, with Duff Green [later statesman] in the early frontier days of Kentucky. It is likely that young Abe Lincoln visited his store often in his early youth.

Karl Rankin (1898-1991) was an American diplomat from Wisconsin. In 1949 Rankin was promoted to U.S. Consul General in Canton, China; and also became Consul General in Hong Kong from 1949 to 1950. Rankin was appointed U.S. Chargé d'Affaires to the Republic of China, based in Taipei, from 1950 to 1953, before being named Ambassador from 1953 to 1957. 63.  [MIXED MULTIPLE LOT] includes: (1) Anthony Wilson Thorold (1825-1895)  Anglican Bishop of Winchester in the Victorian era. The son of a Church of England priest, he also served as Bishop of Rochester. It was in that role that he travelled throughout North America and met with leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While he wrote a number of devotional books, he is best remembered for having recruited Isabella Gilmore to revive the female diaconate in the Anglican Communion. VG. (5) [PORTRAIT] Samuel Latham Mitchill (1764-1831) was an American physician, naturalist, and politician who lived in Plandome, New York. Mitchill taught chemistry, botany, and natural history at Columbia College from 1792 until 1801 and was a founding editor of The Medical Repository, the first medical journal in the United States. In addition to his Columbia lectures on botany, zoology, and mineralogy, Mitchill collected, identified, and classified many plants and animals, particularly aquatic organisms. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1797. From 1807 to 1826, he taught at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New York and then helped organize the short-lived Rutgers Medical College of New Jersey, which he served as vice president until 1830. While at Columbia, Mitchill developed a fallacious theory of disease, which however resulted in his promotion of personal hygiene and improved sanitation. (6) [THEATRE] Charles Kelly (1839–1885) English actor/journalist and husband of actress Ellen Terry. Charles and Ellen met while appearing in Reade's plays, but they separated in 1881. Born in Montrose, Iowa, she began her career in the family tent show, and appeared in vaudeville as a toddler (called "Baby Nedra"). In the early 1930s, Volz was featured vocalist with Cato's Vagabonds, a Des Moines, Iowa, big band that briefly enjoyed national popularity. Cato never made records, but Nedra managed to appear on exactly one 78 side, with Will Osborne's orchestra in 1933. Beginning with an episode of Good Times in 1975, she became a well-recognized supporting character actress, primarily on television and also in feature films. It seems that Margaret Mockler made a claim as the widow of Thomas Mockler, deceased, formerly a Laudsman on the USS Fernandina and collected $36.13 Prize money.  Years later a man claiming to be Thomas Mockler makes a claim.  3-1/3 pages,  5-1/2 x 8-3/4 in.  Pairo is asking for additional information to begin the process of determing who the imposter is, Margaret or the other man. 65. [BOBBY FISCHER] Robert James Fischer (1943- 2008) was an American chess grandmaster and the eleventh World Chess Champion. Offered here are 2 items once owned by Fischer. We bought his chess magazines at the Fischer Auction held in NY at Swann's Auction. Back around 1968 Fischer arranged thru a book dealer to sell his personal library because he needed money. The Brooklyn Library purchased in library.  Years later Swann's sold many items from the libraries collection. Offered here are 2 items: (1) A 1968 softcover brooklet titled FROM THEORY TO ACTION, 64pp. 8-1/2 x 10-3/4 in. (2) A 1961 page from a chess publication. Fischer subscribed to CHESS ARCHIVES EDITIONED BY DR. MAX EUWE.  They would mail to Fischer on some regular schedule multiple page of chess games. 67.  [FILM] Robert "Bobby" Banas (b. 1933) is an American dancer and actor. He is known for his work on movies such as West Side Story (1961), Always (1989) and Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986), as well as a viral video of a televised performance of the Nitty Gritty dance, which accumulated 3.6 million views in four years.   Natalie Wood was his dancing partner in the Michael Panaieff Children’s’ Ballet Company, to which he received a scholarship and in which Jill St. John and Stefanie Powers were members. Banas also attended the Hollywood Professional School.  He auditioned for the production of Carousel at the LA Civic Light Opera and was cast as Enoch Snow Jr. After that, he appeared in stage productions of Kiss Me Kate, Annie Get Your Gun, Brigadoon, Plain and Fancy, and Peter Pan.  Offered here is his signed contract appearing as a dancer in the 1965 film BILLIE starring Patty Duke. 73. [FRANCE] Pierre Louis Parisis - Roman Catholic bishop of the Bishopric of Langres from 1835 to 1851. He was one of the strongest right wing figures in the French Catholic Church of his era. In 1847 he formed the Archconfraternity of Reparation for blasphemy and the neglect of Sunday to promote Acts of Reparation to Jesus Christ. He is also noted for his efforts within the Assembly of 1848 for establishing the ecclesiastical college of St. Dizier and for his discussions concerning the educational reforms.
